Here is my first tip: Do you have a problum removing thoes nasty bot eggs in the fall ? Try a sponge saturated with rubbing alcohol. Scrub the eggs with soaked sponge . I do it several times . Eggs that don't come off will shrivel and If ingusted won't hatch.

Equine madness Good Trainer or Bad Traner that is the question

Now that is a big question in the equine  world , Train your self buy pile of vidoes, books , go to clinics, or find a trainer and how do you know if he or she  is good or bad? I personally like the natural horseman methods. Long ago I saw the father of this natural training method Tom Darrant( I mite have spelled that incorrectly) He was in  his 80s at the time and he instructed a young man with a difficult gelding how to start his horse to make a long story short by the end of the afternoon he was riding the gelding.. Now that's a great trainer ! My favorite is John Lyons he is the top of the line of natural trainers. I think he is the best I have ever seen and I have patterned my training after his methods , absolutely NO abuse, But persistence and persuasion... There are  others that are Good if you can get past their ego's.. :}
 Now I have seen lots horses advertised trained by the Amish , however the Blogs are full of negatives about the Amish trainers that they use old " Break Your Horse methods" like the old timers did .. I haven't experienced this my self but this concerns me as I have advertised for a trade of some of my horses for an Amish horse & Buggy outfit..Since I don't believe in any kind of harsh methods I will be very cautious concerning a trade...
If anyone has any feed back on the subject please leave your comments....

Looking for a shipper " Caution!!

Caution! Just a note from experience .Don't take the cheapest bid on shipping your horse . You will get what you pay for !
I have had two bad experiences from shippers . One was a buyer who paid $5000.00 for a beautiful buckskin filly and hired a low cost shipper .. He arrived in a rattletrap trailer with duck tape on the lights to keep them on . The pickup was of the early 80s vintage with bald tires. The pickup broke down in Arizona and the horses were stuck in the trailer in the Arizona sun for two days..
My next experience was just a few days ago .. A gal with a four year old child in tow, she insisted to Load " Her way" instead of us giving the young filly a light tranquilizer and loading from a chute. Instead she pulled , and pushed , and butt roped for an hour and half . The horse was so stressed she starting biting every body , She has never been known to have such a reaction here on the farm.
To conclude, remember , a bad experience can ruin your investment for a long time . Make sure your hauler is a two person team and there is a place you can find good reference for them . Your investment deserves the best !
